Celestial Sky Kombucha
Brand design and advertisement campaign for a kombucha drink brand.
For this project, I created a Kombucha brand from scratch along with billboard advertisements to go with it. As one of the limitations for the brand creation, it had to be a brand that didn’t already exist in the Trademark Database. The created kombucha brand had to be treated as if it were a real product that would eventually be put on store shelves. I then created three billboard advertisements to promote the drinks and the brand.
Theme
I wanted to work with either a sky themed drink where I could work with the ideas of space and celestial bodies, or a cold themed drink where I could work with cool colors like blues and white. I eventually settled on the space themed kombucha, as I liked the designs I had come up with in the sketches.
Kombucha Bottles
I chose flavors for the kombucha that were fairly common for the people who are just starting out and getting into kombucha. For these people, it’s better to have familiar flavors to start off with, so they can get used to how the drink tastes, before moving into the more unconventional flavors.
For the labels, each bottle has a different starry design on it to help differentiate the bottles from each other, especially for some of the bottles that have similar colors.
3 Celestial Sky Kombucha Flavors
The backside of the label includes a Nutrition Facts label, along with a product description to tell consumers more about the drink. The information on the Nutrition Facts label comes from the real nutrition of kombucha, because I didn’t want to make up any numbers, as I was treating this as a real product.
Advertisements
I created billboard advertisements for the brand because of its high visibility, constant exposure, and its ability to reach broad audiences. Since billboards are placed in high traffic areas, they are seen by a large number of people daily, reaching a diverse audience like locals, tourists, commuters, and pedestrians. The constant exposure they provide, since they are visible 24/7, is effective for creating strong brand recognition and reinforcing the brand message over time.
The magazine ads were made to target more specific groups of people, like health enthusiasts, foodies, or lifestyle readers, contrasting with the billboard advertisements who target the general public. Magazines allow for longer engagement from viewers, providing a longer engagement period for the advertisement.
The two different advertisement approaches complement each other in the audience they reach. The billboards offer broad and constant visibility, while the magazine ads provide targeted and in-depth engagement. Using both methods reinforces brand recognition and recall by reaching the audience through different channels. This helps consumers be more likely to remember and trust a brand when they have encountered it multiple ways.
By combining both types of advertisements, coverage of diverse demographics, from the general public to niche magazine readers, is ensured. The well-rounded marketing strategy uses various forms of media to maximize the brand's impact and reach.
Typeface
For the title typeface I chose something that looked like it would fit with the space theme I was going for, but still be easy to read on the small packaging of the bottle. Out of my three main choices, I settled on Magneto Bold because I liked the bold script-like look it had and felt that the soft flowy look fit best as a contrast to the sharpness of the star designs.
Color Scheme
For the color scheme, I used natural colors found in the sky, including the range of colors from sunset to sunrise, along with darker colors that imitate outer space. I also chose to use a gradient of colors, since the sky can also be a gradient of several colors and isn’t always one flat color. I mainly wanted to stick with a darker color scheme, so the white stars of the constellation-like design could be easily visible, as well as being able to include small white stars across the rest of the bottle’s label.
