Drunk Driving Prevention

3-Piece prevention campaign for drunk driving.

The problem I wanted to focus on is drinking and driving. Despite strict laws and punishments for drinking and driving, people still choose to get behind the wheel after drinking, so I wanted to address the problem by bringing awareness to the dangers and risks of driving while drunk, as well as provide preventative measures that can help dissuade people from driving while under the influence. My campaign is centered around posters as the main deliverable.

This campaign is meant to get viewers to make use of ride-share services, always discuss and plan methods of transportation before going out and drinking, whether alone or with others, and to discourage others from driving after having consumed alcohol (especially when with a group of others).

Target Audience

My intended audience are males, ages 21-40, who live in California and like to go out and drink, either with friends or by themselves. I chose this demographic because men between the ages of 21 and 40 are the ones most likely to drink and drive.

Poster Campaign

I wanted to showcase how dangerous drinking and driving can be, as well as impacts it can have on a person’s life. I focused both on the feeling I wanted to portray, as well as the image. I decided to apply a different line effect to part of the image, exaggerating the parts where car related aspects connect with alcohol related aspects.

In each poster, I have the car related word in a different color from the rest to make it stand out more. I also included a QR code to each poster for people to scan. The QR code included a link to a rideshare app for people to use so they don’t have a reason to drive while drunk. The main place where these posters would be placed would be in restaurants and bars, on windows and on the door when people are getting ready to leave the area.

Pop Sockets

I created Pop Sockets as an extra reminder for people not to drink and drive. Since people take their phones with them everywhere, this reminder would always be with them, and something they would see every time they pick up their phone.

Color Scheme

I used the different colors of each alcohol I included for emphasis. I used red because of the attention-grabbing nature of the color, along with its association with danger. Finally, I chose various grays as the neutral colors because 1) I wanted a color unified across all four posters since I was using several different colors already, and 2) having the grays would help make the red and the alcohol colors pop more.
