Woodland Dining
Menu and app prototype for a themed family restaurant inspired by the Pinnacles National Park.
“Woodland Dining” is best known for its fusion of nature-inspired cuisine and family recipes sourced from a dedicated cookbook. This unique blend creates a dining experience that celebrates both the natural beauty of Pinnacles National Park and the warmth of traditional family cooking. Dishes like Grandma’s Crab Gumbo, Dad’s Prime Rib Roast, and the Forest Floor Stuffed Mushrooms highlight the restaurant’s commitment to quality, flavor, and a sense of nostalgia. Moreover, Woodland Dining is renowned for its cozy ambiance and welcoming atmosphere, inviting guests to enjoy delicious meals amidst the scenic backdrop of nature’s wonders.

Target Audience
Since Woodland Dining is a family restaurant, the target audience is families who live near, or are visiting the Pinnacles National Park. It also includes families who are looking for a unique dining experience that reflects the national park it is based on.
Restaurant Menu
I chose to incorporate the animals that could be found in the Pinnacles into the design of the menu and into a few of the dishes as well. Each of the names for the section headings and the dishes are designed to fit the theme of restaurant. These names emphasize the woodland and nature-inspired theme, adding a unique touch to the menu, while also adding a playful touch, making it more appealing to the family aspect of the restaurant.
The menu also includes an 'About' page at the beginning of the menu. It is meant to introduce customers to the restaurant, while also highlighting the uniqueness of the restaurant, sharing the history of the restaurant, and enhancing the experience of diners by making it more memorable.
I included a special menu list centered around the national park. Aside from the special menu, each of the listed dishes comes from my family’s cookbook. For each section of the menu, I picked out a variety of dishes so the menu can have a wide range of dishes to offer.
Typefaces
For the display and heading type, I used "Lobster" because the hand-drawn, cursive look is friendly and inviting for the family themed restaurant. It has a playful and slightly vintage feel that complements the rustic and natural feel of a woodland setting. Its bold look also attracts attention and stands out, which makes it perfect for the headings and display text.
"Verdana" was used for the menu's body text, because of it easy readability, especially in small sizes. The simple, clean sans serif look of Verdana contrasts well with Lobster's fancier, more decorative style, which keeps the menu from feeling overly busy or cluttered.
Color Scheme
To showcase the nature aspect of the restaurant, I used earthy tones like brown, green, tan and red. I settled on using Earth Yellow (#e1a95f) for the background color of the menu and Red Brown (#842000) for the text color, while using Green and Brown for the cover design and natural colors for the animals.
